All students are required to complete a one-term full-time internship during the summer between Year One and Year Two of the DM program. Internships may be served in corporate, educational, public or private institutions, within or outside of the United States. The DM Director of Graduate Studies will help to make students aware of possible internship venues. Information is posted to the student email list when opportunities arise. In addition, DM students are eligible to participate in Georgia Tech's Graduate Co-Op Program, which offers assistance in identifying possible internship sites. The ultimate responsibility for finding and securing an internship rests with the individual student.

Previous DM and IDT students have served internships as information architects and interactive designers at the following organizations:

Banff Center for the Arts
Center for Assistive Technology & Environmental Access (CATEA)
Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
Eastman Kodak
Georgia Tech Research Institute
IBM
Maxis Software (Electronic Arts)
Motorola
Museum of Modern Art
Public Broadcasting Station (PBS)
Scient Corporation
Sun Microsystems
Turner Broadcasting

Internships require a specified mentor/supervisor and plan of work, which must be approved in advance by the Director of Graduate Studies for DM, and an Internship Completion form to be signed by both the student and mentor/supervisor evaluating the experience.
